Fighting FUD

Ok, so management have agreed that even though we might move to MS Exchange, they accept that we will still be running Notes apps for at least 5 years.  So they have agreed to us undertaking a project next year to upgrade from Notes 6.5 client to Notes 8.5.x.  However they would like us to make sure that the new version of the client looks exactly like the old one, as they don’t want to have to train the users.

BOLLOCKS.

They don’t want the users to see the nice shiny new client that does all this new flashy stuff and go “Why on earth are we moving to Microshit Exchange???”.

Battle is on.

I just upgraded my wife’s Notes client from 7.0.1 to 8.5.1. It was not much of an event — she just shrugged.

Your mistake was in trying to discuss the new UI.
Should have said, yes sir, walked away and then installed, via smart upgrade or email push, the 8.5.1 client standard.
But what you can do is express the benefits from using the sidebar, builtin sametime/quickr if you have them and leverage what makes the standard client better for everyone.
Like opening views or forms in the sidebar to reduce time to accomplish tasks.
Push the benefits aside from UI and you will get farther and make everyone happier.
and wonder about why they went to Outlook.

  3. Darren Duke Says:

But it was the other way round. We want R8 Standard so “when” we move to outlook there will be less training.

This client has subsequently been seized by the FDIC. I wonder why?

As Keith said, extol the virtues of the sidebar. You can embed ANY view from ANY database in there and can really increase a users productivity.
